DAY 1: US Women’s Sweep In Fencing///Phelps Starts Off In Style

The American womens fencing team takes the sweep with Mariel Zagunis leading the pack, winning the gold:

Bronze Becca Ward (US)

That’s the only medals America won today, not too bad for the first day though! Here you can see how the other countries did.

Michael Phelps broke his own world record in the 400-meter individual medley in the time of 4:03.84.

All he needs now is two more gold medals to tie the record of Mark Spitz.

“I’m pretty happy. That was a pretty emotional race,” Phelps said. “I knew it was going to be a tough race all the way through.”

The 400-meter individual medley was supposed to be one of his toughest tasks at these summer games.

Well if it was, he should have no problem tying and beating Mark Spitz’s record of 9 gold medals.
