USA! USA! Men’s Basketball Team Clinches Top Spot

In yet another statement game, the 2008 U.S. Men’s Olympic Team (4-0) proved it does have range, sinking a U.S. Olympic record-tying 12 3-pointers to down Spain (3-1) 119-82 Sunday night at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China. The win secures the USA’s No. 1 seed in Pool A headed into quarterfinal play, regardless of the outcome of its final preliminary game against Germany on Tuesday.

Everybody scored for the USA, including eight players in double figures. Superstar LeBron James led the way with 18 points; followed by fellow superstar Carmelo Anthony and Heat star Dwyane Wade with 16 points each; MVP runner up Chris Paul with 14; 2008 NBA MVP Kobe Bryant and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz) both tallied 11 points; and Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) and Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons) added 10 points
