Uh-Oh. Look Who’s Back

According to numerous sources, Carl Pavano will start Saturday for the New York Yankees against the Orioles.. For those of you who don’t know, Carl Pavano has been plagued throughout his 3+ years in a Yankee uniform with injuries, which is just one of the reasons all Yankee fans and a few Yankee teammates dislike him.

“It didn’t look good from a player’s and teammate’s standpoint,” Mussina said of Pavano’s injuries. “Was everything just coincidence? Over and over again? I don’t know.” Manager Joe Torre explained that the amount of work Pavano needed to do in repairing his clubhouse image was “sizable.”

In his free agent year in 2004, he signed a four-year contract worth $39.5 million, which he deserved, considering the year before he went 18-8 record with a 3.00 ERA. He actually accepted less money to come to the Yankes as many other teams were offering him fatter contracts.

But hey, maybe he could be that pitcher that dominates the rest of the regular season, and gives the Yanks a real shot at a playoff berth. Aaron Smalls and Shawn Chacon did it for them a few years back.

“He worked extremely hard to put himself in this position, to get back and help the this club,” agent Tom O’Connell told the Star-Ledger. “He’s really excited about the opportunity and he’s up to the challenge.”
